SFP Volunteer Update – April, 2023

“Kindness is giving hope to those who think they are all alone in this world.”

-      Lewis Brownlee

Hi, faithful volunteers and supporters! Spring is here, with all its blooming beauty. At the Pantry, we carry that sunshine in our hearts while we help our neighbors of all ages and different backgrounds. Seeking help is a heavy burden. We thank all of you for your kindness and support for our families.

As you may be aware, a growing number of our families do not speak or understand English very well. In response to the increase in Spanish speaking families, we have several volunteers who come during our openings to assist with translation and help introduce our service to the family. For the other languages, such as Ukrainian, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Polish and Creole, we currently rely on their family members, translation apps or even hand signals.

New families we are seeing every month.

This month, I would like to warmly welcome Kathy Rodriguez as our new English/Spanish Bilingual Pantry & Volunteer Coordinator. Kathy will be managing our openings the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays and taking on volunteer coordinator activities. Please join me in welcoming her to the team!

Volunteers go above and beyond

This month, I would like to acknowledge our volunteers who assist with translating for our families. This role has been so helpful easing the transition of new families to our Pantry. Big thank you to this team including Board Member Juan, Coordinator Kathy, Omahyra, Gloria and Elizabeth.

Thank you for your continued support of the Pantry. Your kindness will forever be in my heart.

Respectfully yours,

Joyce
