SFP Volunteer Update – May, 2023

“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals. When we pool our strength and share the work and responsibility, we can welcome many people, even those in deep distress, and perhaps help them find self-confidence and inner healing.”

-      Jean Vanier

Hello, everyone. I hope this message finds you and your family well.

This morning, I was reflecting on how much our Pantry family is able to achieve working together. When I updated our inventory for the June 7th opening (remember we are closed May 31st), I started thinking about the fact that for May we ordered food for 450 families. At this same time last year, there were 350 families. As of today, we saw 26 new families in May and served 909 families equaling 2,940 individuals. This would be unachievable without the front line and back end support our Pantry family provides. Thank you!

We offer a minimum of 9 supplemental meals per individual during each visit.

Fundraising

As you are aware, we have been busy preparing for our fundraising event at the Tuxedo Club on June 10th. This event has the potential to help us get close to our annual fundraising goal. Tickets are still available! To purchase, please visit the event page on our website. If you are willing to share the invite to your network, I have included the image below.

We are selling raffle tickets with the winner announced during the event. If you want to buy some, please contact Lyn. If you have been selling, please be sure to turn in the stubs and money by June 7th.

We will host a silent auction during the event. If you have something to donate, please contact Beth to work out donation details.

Lastly, we are selling Pantry – Be Kind shirts. If you are interested in purchasing one for yourself please click here. Orders are due by June 9. You have the option of ship to home or Pantry. Shipping is less expensive if you have it shipped to the Pantry. Orders are due to arrive by June 29.

Please help spread the word about our fundraising event!

Volunteers go above and beyond

We have a small, very dedicated team working hard on our fundraising event. I would like to give a shout out to these folks who have been planning, organizing, advertising and getting the word out about the Pantry and fundraising event. While we are in good standing financially, it is so important to keep the funds coming in to ensure we can sustain our services for many months and years to come. These folks are giving a lot of their time to help us achieve our goal. Thank you: Heather, Susan, Beth, Jackie, Lyn, Terry, Elizabeth and Sue.

Wishing you a wonderful extended weekend.

Respectfully yours,

Joyce
