SFP Volunteer Update – July, 2023

Hi, everyone. I hope your summer is going well and you are enjoying some of these rainless days! As I drove Colin to camp today, we talked about the need to be with other people. The ability to connect around shared interests, work together to accomplish tasks and just enjoy being with others.

I mentioned how last week before our delivery, I was feeling a bit off. But as our delivery crew arrived, greeted one another and jumped in to prep, I found myself feeling better. The community of the work, pleasantness of the volunteers and the selfless giving of time turned my emotions around.

SFP Volunteer Update – June, 2023

Hello. As we welcome in summer and vacations, I want to wish each of you a wonderful season. Your time and dedication to our Pantry is heartwarming and amazing. I could never thank any of you enough.

Traditionally, our client visits slightly decline during the summer months. We did see a slight decrease in June when we assisted 894 families (2,871 individuals) from 909 families (2,940 individuals) in May.

SFP Volunteer Update – May, 2023

Hello, everyone. I hope this message finds you and your family well.

This morning, I was reflecting at how much our Pantry family is able to achieve working together. When I updated our inventory for the June 7th opening (remember we are closed May 31st), I started thinking about the fact that for May we ordered food for 450 families. At this same time last year, it was 350 families. As of today, we saw 26 new families in May and served 909 families equaling 2,940 individuals. This would be unachievable without the front line and back end support our Pantry family provides. Thank you!

SFP Volunteer Update – March, 2023

Hello, everyone. As March comes to a close, we continue to see a rise in client families with some who are new and others returning after some time. The new families are not only those new to the U.S., but also senior citizens. I recently spoke with one client who said she had been doing fine, but the increase in food prices and decrease in government support has caused her to struggle.

SFP Volunteer Update – December, 2022

As the year draws to close, I know I am not the only one to reflect on how much has changed. Last year at this time, we were finishing the renovations at our new home, All Souls Community Church. We completed 18 months of drive-thru distributions and in December were able to serve from the Fellowship Hall!

SFP Volunteer Update – November, 2022

As you may know, November is our busiest month at the Pantry. We see not only new people, but also some who come just for Thanksgiving. Thanks to the support of our Board of Directors, Susan, Terry, Kristen, our loyal volunteers and kind community, we were able to provide holiday meals to 476 families. Over three days, the distributions included chicken, some donated turkeys, a choice of pork or fish, beautiful produce including yams and carrots, bread, butter, milk, eggs and a small gift card to ShopRite.

SFP Volunteer Update – October / November, 2022

First things first. We could NOT fulfill our mission “To work together as a community to provide supplemental, nutritionally balanced food to those in need while respecting the dignity of each person we serve” without YOU. Volunteers provide kindness, help and a welcoming atmosphere for our families. For that I am forever grateful.

Hi, everyone. As we move into summer, and the cost of food and gas continue to rise, we hear the strain from our clients. In response, we continue to provide as much food as we can including meat, cheese, bread, milk and eggs at every opening.

SFP Volunteer Update – January, 2022

The New Year delivered the approval to open our indoor pantry space! The timing was perfect as winter brought in some blustery days. I am so thankful we were able to welcome our clients from within the indoor pantry instead of an outdoor distribution.
